Recently fired from his job, a talented musician does the only thing he can think to do: like a melding of Jack Kerouac and Daniel Boone, he sets out on the road, determined to walk the length of the Sheltowee Trace and come out the other side understanding of how to proceed with his life. The answers he desires are fleeting, and he discovers something altogether different from what he expects.
Award-winning filmmaker Martha Stephens is quickly becoming one of Kentucky’s greatest treasures, depicting rural life with a bold honesty rarely seen elsewhere. Her debut feature, PASSENGER PIGEONS, was featured at last year’s Flyover Film Festival, and this year’s follow-up proves to be even better. Filmed on location in Louisville, PILGRIM SONG features a score from local musicians Wood & Iafrate and lush cinematography of the Appalachian wilderness. It is a film about the journeys we all take in search of answers to questions we hardly know. -Ben Creech
