The Story of an 11 Year Old Kid

Peer down a dark alleyway, and you’ll see a movie-loving violinist; look further and a gaggle of nighttime dancers make their way through the crowd. The streets burst with life – musicians beat out frenzied rhythms on congo drums, trumpeters sound out brassy tunes, silver saxophones sing to the night. Dizzying, mesmerizing, hallucinogenic, TCHOUPITOULAS chases dreams through the constantly changing but never-ending music that echoes through the streets of New Orleans.

TCHOUPITOULAS is directed by the Ross brothers, whose previous venture was the slice-of-life documentary 45365, which followed the denizens of a small town over the course of a day. Here they have expanded that approach to greater effect, following three young boys as they journey through half-lit streets over the course of one night. Take a musical odyssey and immerse yourself in the nocturnal soundscape, navigating a side of New Orleans where the mundane becomes universal and the profane is made sacred. – Ben Creech
